The truth is, no one can put an exact time on how long should “normal” sex last.
Some say, even if you ejaculate after only 5 seconds, and if you and your partner are happy with that, premature ejaculation is not a problem at all.
That’s why you should see coping with PE as a sexual improvement project, not as a treatment of some kind of disorder.
The only exception to this rule would be extremely severe cases of PE. Cases where ejaculation almost always happens before the penetration. Which makes natural impregnation very difficult, or even impossible.
However, sex has another function… the sheer pleasure of the act. The happiness and intimacy that brings in a relationship.
Over 70% of men admit they could use better endurance – and we’re not talking about treadmills.
So… how long do you really need to last?
Here are some interesting statistics…
Back in 1948, the pioneering sex researcher, Alfred Kinsey, reported that average man can last for only about 2 minutes. Kinsey and his associates came to this number after interviews with some 18,000 men and women.
In 2006, at the Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine, an American research paper reported the following:
The average lasting time for a man with PE was 1.8 minutes
‘Normal’ man on average lasted for about 7.3 minutes
At the same Congress, Doctor Waldinger, presented the results of a study based on 491 men from five different countries (Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, and United States).
He discovered the this:
- On average men could last 5.4 minutes
- 0.5% of men last less than 60 seconds
- 2.5% of men last less than 90 seconds
Another report revealed that, for the average Canadian couple, the sex last between 4 and 7 minutes.
Cosmo readers survey said that the average guy lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Based on those studies above, we can say that, on average, men can last for about 2-15 minutes. However those “average” numbers sometimes can be misleading.
For example in Doctor Waldinger’s study, although the average lasting time was 5.4 minutes, some men could last only 35 seconds, while others could go for over 44 minutes.
Also, in many studies, some men who claimed to have premature ejaculation could last up to 25 minutes.
Dr David Delvin (GP and family planning specialist) and Christine Webber (psychotherapist) say that from their own clinical experience, there are plenty of couples feel that any ejaculation in under 10 minutes or so is definitely premature.
As you can see different people have very different ideas about what is “normal”.
Maybe the better question is how long does it take for a woman to reach an orgasm?
According to many studies done so far, the average time to climax for a woman varies, but ranges between 12 to 25 minutes.
The answer is 12-25 minutes. That’s how much woman needs to reach an orgasm.
That being said, many perfectly normal women (as much as 60-70% of them) cannot reach an orgasm through penetration alone at all. So even if you could go all night, you’d only make her sore.
Nonetheless, it is important to know that these women still do enjoy penetration. Even if they can’t reach an orgasm this way. Even if you worked hard to develop your oral skills to compensate, they still would want intercourse.
So, it’s important to last longer if you want to be able to please a woman sexually. One thing that can help you last longer is thinking about something else while having sex.
