Premature ejaculation and relationship issues

Tackle Relationship Issues To Last Longer In Bed

Believe it or not, it really helps when your head and heart are in mood for sex as much as your body.

If you’re unhappy about something with your partner you’ll have a tendency to rush through sex to “get it over and done with”. Needles to say you won’t last long in bed if this is happening.

Here’s what Dr Michael Stephensen said about it in his article The Truth About Male Sexual Dysfunction, published in The Canadian Journal of CME / April 2003

“… What role do relationships play? People with relationship problems often present to the family physician’s office believing they are suffering from sexual dysfunction.

In general, it is difficult to treat a sexual problem in a dysfunctional relationship. Patients often believe that the sexual dysfunction is the cause of the relationship discord. Experience would suggest that, in many cases, the relationship problems are contributing to the sexual dysfunction… ”

(Michael C. Stephensen, MD, CCFP is a lecturer at the University of Manitoba and a private practice family physician and sexual medicine consultant, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.)

Relationship issues are often the underlying cause of premature ejaculation. And in recent years, a number of studies have confirmed the negative effect that premature ejaculation can have on relationship and self-esteem. So, you should address those issues.

Open communication between sexual partners can help reduce conflict and performance anxiety. If you’re not satisfied with your sexual relationship, talk with your partner about your concerns. Try to approach the topic in a loving way and to avoid blaming your partner for your dissatisfaction.

If you’re not able to resolve sexual problems on your own, talk with your doctor. He or she may recommend seeing a therapist who can help you and your partner achieve a fulfilling sexual relationship.

“…what I found working is being in a good sex relationship. With my ex I could never control myself, but now I found out it’s just a matter of relaxing, enjoying the feelings of closeness, and not thinking about it… ”

If you’re experiencing something like that in your relationship, maybe you don’t need  premature ejaculation to last longer. Maybe you just need to improve communication in your relationship. Or maybe you need a new relationship.
